A Vibrant October at Sycamore Run
November 3, 2024
October was a month filled with festive fun and creativity at Sycamore Run as we celebrated the arrival of fall and Halloween.
Our residents, especially those in the dementia unit, truly enjoyed getting into the spirit with arts and crafts. We plan these creative activities ahead of time, making sure supplies are ready to go. Sharon, my amazing activity aide, is fantastic at brainstorming ideas and organizing our sessions. We call these gatherings “Sip and Paint” or “Sip and Create,” where residents enjoy making decorations to brighten up their rooms.
Daisy Dohm from our dementia unit shared,
“I love making things to hang in my room. Looking at what I’ve made brings a smile to my face.” These activities encourage residents to support one another, celebrating both the process and the finished products.
Halloween was a special highlight! Families joined in the Trick-or-Treating fun, dressing up alongside staff. For those less mobile, our team ensured everyone could still enjoy the treats. We hope to open it up to children in the future! The annual pumpkin decorating contest was a hit, with residents helping each other and cheering on the winners.
Hosting activities and events like these means so much to us as a nursing home. Bringing joy, laughter, and creative outlets to our residents not only brightens their days but also strengthens the bonds within our community. Seeing their smiles, hearing their laughter, and watching them come together to support one another fills our hearts with gratitude. It’s a privilege to create these meaningful experiences and lasting memories, not just for our residents but for their families as well. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do—bringing comfort, joy, and a sense of home to everyone we care for.
